2. Delete Files
To fix a slow computer the 2nd thing before defragmentation would
be to delete any unnecessary files on your computer.
During the normal use, your computer needs to write temporary files to you hard drive.
Mostly these files never get cleaned up. There is a FREE tool available that I have had
great success using. There are two versions of this utility. I use the XP version. I have NOT reviewed the VISTA / Win 7 as yet.
“Disk Cleaner is a free open source (GPL v2) tool to quickly and easily clean your hard disk from temporary files like those in the system temporary folder, the Internet Explorer Cache and Cookies folder, and the Recycle Bin. Disk Cleaner is absolutely free from adware and spyware.” – www.diskcleaner.nl/download.php Get it Now
Currently to download I use the author’s site mirror #2 but note: there is a version Vista and a for 98 and XP
Disk Cleaner version 1.6.1273 (RC2) is for Vista click the words (mirror #2)
Disk Cleaner version 1.5.7 is for win98 and XP click the words (mirror #2)
I use this utility once a week before I run defrag onĀ my system. This tool will help fix a slow computer.
